TheCoinStore.org Photography Disclaimer

This This Photography disclaimer is to show some insight on our opinion on taking photographs of coins and media that we are trying to perfect on this website. This Photography disclaimer is meant to be as honest and open as we can about this This Photography disclaimer.

In my opinion, this photography disclaimer is to attempt to show how we strive to do our best when it comes to the photography . No two coins are exactly the same so we attempt to find an acceptable medium for the coins we are currently photographing.

We attempt to find that acceptable medium and will do our best to keep it that way. It is way too time consuming to attempt to get a perfect photograph for every single Lincoln cent, especially if the time and effort well exceeds the value of the coin. It would take us four to six times longer to find that “perfect” photo. Logic tells us to photograph a coin at an acceptable level. Believe me, I am picky about this – the whole Family is.

In the past, I personally have bought a lot of 5,000 count bags and many, many rolls of uncirculated Lincoln cents over the years and we have cataloged most of these in plastic coin tubes attempting to keep the coins as close to BU as possible. Most of the Lincoln Cents we have to offer have been stored in safes for decades.

Although we cannot control every environmental or natural causes, the Lincoln cents have been treated to comfortable temperatures but, they are subject to conditions of ocean breezes, high humidity and time. It is our belief that copper / bronze Lincoln cents will eventually turn to brown in color over time. This Photography disclaimer

Photography disclaimer – Photography of coins

When photographing any coin, it can be extremely difficult to capture any toning or light changes in the patina of the coin. Our goal is to show the overall condition of the coin and most of the imperfections if any are present. We attempt to show you what the coin you are about to purchase looks like. It’s what we would like to see. It’s more about showing the customer what they are getting, instead of offering a generic photograph for all the coins we have in stock.

The photographs we offer will give hints where the potential patina or color is slightly different. We attempt to show any color changes (patina or toning) but, it is not cost effective to spend a lot of time taking photographs of coins which would exceed the value of the coin. If a coin has significant value, we will do our best to use alternate photography equipment to see if we can display any patina, toning or coloring of the coin.

No matter the price, we attempt to show you the photographs of the coin you are about to consider for purchase. We could take the “easy way out” by taking a generic photo of a coin with of the same denomination, date and mint mark (if applicable). We believe the issue with this is that the generic photo of the photo will be different from all the other coins of that same denomination, date and mint mark (if applicable). People have a right to choose which coin appeals to them, since every one has their own particular tastes when it comes to appearance / appeal.

Photography disclaimer – Lighting

Lighting is THE #1 pain to master. It can change on the flutter of a sheer fabric changing the overall appearance of the photograph. Light levels can innocently mask patina, toning, light finger prints, light contact marks and more. There is a delicate balance between just enough light which shows any imperfections and oversaturation which makes the coin look more appealing, but in our opinion, not showing imperfections is not necessarily acceptable since it does not show the true condition of the coin.

Photography disclaimer – The way forward

This adventure will cost us a lot of time and effort. But in the end when the coins are visible on our website, rest assured we have tried our best to find that happy medium. With the US Lincoln Cent soon to be discontinued, we feel this will spark people to revisit the Lincoln Cent series and potentially want to add a few Lincoln cents to their collection or, start some one collecting.

We recently purchased a brand new camera setup from the ground up. It is our belief that this system will provide the advanced photography we have wanted to achieve for quite some time. The adventure will commence very soon. It is our hope that the photograph results will be outstanding, showing the coin as we see it in hand.

Prior to your purchase, if you want to ask some questions about the coins, please feel free to contact us. The information is below.
